U.S. Federal, Geospatial Engineer

Avineon is seeking U.S. Federal, Geospatial Engineer. The U.S. Federal, Geospatial Engineer will report to the Vice President of Growth Operations in Avineon’s U.S. Federal division. The Geospatial Engineer’s primary role is to support, broaden, and enhance the impact of GIS technology on the client’s business and mission. The Geospatial Engineer will work closely with clients and business partners to identify, design, implement, and certify key GIS workflows for the ArcGIS platform.

The Geospatial Engineer will help shape implementation of the ArcGIS platform by identifying new value driven opportunities. Individuals in this position must be able to proactively craft, propose, and implement configured solutions that address critical challenges and mission requirements faced by our customers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understand how Esri’s technology integrates/interfaces with clients' visions and translate business requirements into design specifications
  • Communicate ArcGIS Enterprise technologies to technical and non-technical customers and stakeholders
  • Be able to understand, create, and explain new data products created by spatial analysis and machine learning.
  • Present complex GIS technical demonstrations to various levels of staff in a diverse range of customer organizations.
  • Broaden and enhance the impact of GIS technology on client businesses and missions.
  • Help shape the ArcGIS platform by identifying new implementation opportunities.
  • Be able to proactively craft, propose, and implement configured solutions that address critical challenges and mission requirements faced by our customers.
  • Provide web GIS configuration guidance and best practices to clients.
  • Possess a desire to immerse yourself in location-based problem solving to support our clients’ missions.
  • Collaborate internally to help customer organizations align their technical objectives and business goals with Esri’s technology platform.
  • Prepare and present high-quality business and technical documentation.
  • Communicate best practices for building and maintaining enterprise geodatabases.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Five or more years of experience designing, implementing, and/or administrating enterprise GIS solutions/systems that leverage the ArcGIS platform (desktop, server, and online).
  • Experience with Esri software including ArcGIS Enterprise, Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and their associated APIs or interfaces.
  • Experience in Python scripting, including the ArcGIS API for Python and ArcPy.
  • Knowledge of geospatial and mapping concepts such as spatial analysis, map projections, etc.
  • Experience with current technology implementation patterns including service-oriented architectures and cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with Safe Software FME or similar ETL tools.
  • Professional excellence in technical consulting, solution design, project envisioning, planning, developing, and deployment.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies (e.g., Scrum).
  • Strong, persuasive communication skills; ability to clearly communicate technical ideas, whether to other technical peers or non-technical project managers or customers.

 

Certifications:

 

  • CompTIA Security+ Certification preferred
  • GISP preferred
  • ArcGIS Enterprise and Desktop Certifications preferred

 

Education:

 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in geography, computer science, engineering, mathematics, GIS, or a related field, depending on position level.

 

Recommended Qualifications:

 

  • Experience scripting with pandas Python library.
  • Experience developing web applications using ArcGIS API for JavaScript.
  • Experience integrating GIS software solutions with other business systems, including SharePoint.
  • Direct work-related experience in and familiarity with the organizations and operations of US federal civilian and Defense enterprises.
  • Experience with Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or other RDBMS.

 

Clearance: Active Secret or above clearance preferred.
