Avineon Teams with Intergraph Canada on Union Gas Project
Alexandria, Va. – February 19, 2009 – Avineon, Inc., a successful provider of IT, engineering, geospatial, and program management services, today announced Intergraph Canada has awarded the company a contract to provide data re-alignment and data migration services for Union Gas Limited.
Union Gas, a major Canadian natural gas utility, provides energy delivery and related services to about 1.3 million customers in Ontario. Avineon’s scope of work for this project involves migrating data from a legacy Intergraph FRAMME system to a new G/Technology platform. During data migration, a number of additional data manipulations are required. Data will be re-projected from the two different systems currently in use by the North and South regions of the company to a single new projection system.
Data manipulations are also being performed to accommodate changes in the way that certain features will be modeled, taking advantage of G/Technologies advanced capabilities. The G/Technology model provides transmission pipeline modeling, including stationing, events, event series, and more, as well as traditional distribution network modeling, all within a single environment.
The Union Gas transmission pipeline data is included as part of the migration, as are key pertinent land base features, including street centerlines, street intersections, easements, landmarks and various political and corporate boundary features
Gary Wilkison, Senior Vice President of Avineon’s Commercial Systems division, stated, “We are pleased to support Intergraph Canada in this effort and look forward to helping Union Gas realize their present and future GIS goals.”
