Missile Defense and Combat Systems Engineer Joins Avineon
Alexandria, Va. – Sept. 12, 2006 – Avineon, Inc., a successful provider of IT, geospatial, engineering and program management services, announced today the appointment of Robert Shevock as director, systems engineering and integration within the company’s Defense Systems division. He will support Avineon’s Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security clients and initiatives, facilitating the analysis, planning and expansion of defense-related acquisition, business management and development efforts.
Shevock brings more than 20 years of experience in managing and developing combat systems. He will lead Avineon’s systems engineering and development of warfare capability projects. Shevock’s responsibilities will include identifying and evaluating technical standards and architectures that support effective warfare system performance, integration and interoperability, as well as managing and executing defense contracts.
Debra Wittmer, vice president of Avineon’s Defense Systems division, commented, “Bob Shevock has a proven record of leading large and complex combat system developments to successful delivery. We are committed to accelerating our growth in the defense industry and Bob’s background and expertise will strengthen Avineon’s capabilities in this area.”
Shevock has held multiple positions within the Department of Defense’s Missile Defense Agency, most recently serving as Aegis BMD (Ballistic Missile Defense) systems engineering and architecture division head. In that position, he established and led the division that was responsible for systems engineering, architecture and development for all Aegis BMD efforts planned for fielding beyond 2006. Aegis BMD builds upon the Aegis Combat Systems to detect, track, intercept and destroy short range ballistic missiles in the midcourse phase of flight. Shevock also directed and managed Aegis-related and other combat system development programs over a fourteen-year span working for Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA).
“As someone with extensive experience working in the combat systems development field, I welcome the opportunity to join Avineon, a company respected within the industry for providing critical support to U.S. defense agencies,” said Shevock. “I look forward to bridging my previous experience and background into actionable results for Avineon’s defense clients.”
Shevock holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University and a Master’s degree in Engineering Administration from Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
