Avineon Awarded Contract to Integrate Flight Procedures for Naval Flight Information Group

Five-year, cost-plus-fixed-fee contract will integrate
U.S. air communities worldwide

Alexandria, Va. – March 7, 2006 – Avineon, Inc., a successful provider of IT, engineering, geospatial and program management services, today announced the U.S. Navy’s Naval Flight Information Group (NAVFIG) has awarded Avineon a contract to provide technical and analytical support for the design and evaluation of Terminal Instrument Procedures (TERPS). Under this five-year, sole-source contract, Avineon will develop, review and analyze flight procedures using TERPS criteria to meet Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Defense (DOD) and U.S. Navy standards.

Avineon currently provides technical support for the analysis and evaluation of the Navy’s TERPS used by Naval and Marine Corps aviators at air stations worldwide, as well as certain host nation airports, when operating around airfields under instrument flight rules. This includes designing and producing the programming requirements necessary to fulfill aeronautical flight information required of the Navy ensuring all flight safety procedures are in accordance for the protection of personnel and aircraft. Under the new contract, Avineon will combine the use of new tools provided by the FAA on the commercial side with strategic war-fighting efforts to integrate U.S. air communities worldwide. This will allow U.S. military forces and the FAA to have automated means to better communicate and leverage information on flight procedures and provide flexibility regarding air control both commercially and within the DOD.

Mark Brown, head of NAVFIG, commented, “Over the last decade, Avineon has provided IT services to assist NAVFIG in utilizing new technologies to improve our instrument design and publication efficiency prompting numerous commendations for the delivery of on-time, within budget and technically superior performance. Avineon’s expertise and innovation have allowed NAVFIG's capabilities to accomplish both general and war-fighting mission requirements needed from a global strike perspective. We look forward to continuing our relationship.”

Avineon has worked with NAVFIG since 1996, automating workflows with the application development and implementation of NAVFIG’s Navy Terminal Instrument Procedures applications software. In addition, Avineon has also assisted with the development of AVNATERPS, a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tool that Flight Procedure Specialists use to analyze digital terrain elevation data from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency to create images for FAA flight inspections.

“Avineon has the qualified personnel necessary to design and produce all the programming requirements to fulfill any type of aeronautical flight information that is required of the Navy,” said Debra Wittmer, vice president of defense systems and homeland security for Avineon. “This new contract will allow us to continue development and innovation within the mechanics of how flight procedures are designed today and in the future.”
