Avineon/ Field Data Services Awarded GIS Implementation contract by Upper Peninsula Power Company and Wisconsin Public Service Corporation
Clearwater, FL (January 5, 2004): Avineon, Inc., a leading provider of geospatial solutions, today announced that Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) and Wisconsin Public Service Corporation (WPSC) selected the team of Field Data Services, Inc. (FDSI) and Avineon, Inc. to implement a geographic information system (GIS) for UPPCO. The project began in September, 2003.
Both UPPCO and WPSC are subsidiaries of WPS Resources Corporation. UPPCO provides electricity to customers in 10 of the 15 counties in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. WPSC provides electricity and natural gas to customers in central and northeastern Wisconsin.
The project will integrate UPPCO's electric facilities into GE Network Solutions Smallworld GIS, known as WPSC's EAGLE (Enterprise Applications for Gas, Land and Electric) System. WPSC will store, maintain, distribute, and update the GIS for UPPCO. The project requires the creation of a digital landbase and a complete field inventory of the overhead and parts of the underground electric distribution system throughout the UPPCO service territory. The main inventory portion of the project will consist of approximately 71,500 poles.
Avineon will acquire Michigan Geographic framework landbase data and use ESRI tools to merge, conflate, and enhance the data with additional landbase features from supplemental sources. The landbase will be provided to FDSI for use in their handheld data collectors during field inventory. Once FDSI completes the inventory of an overhead network circuit, they will submit the digital field data to Avineon for further processing and loading into the EAGLE extract. Once the overhead data is loaded, Avineon will add underground facilities from existing UPPCO source records directly into EAGLE. When completed, UPPCO will have a fully connected model of the land and facility data in the EAGLE Smallworld format. All production work will be performed in Avineon's Clearwater GIS facility.”
