Avineon Successfully Converts Hard Copy Valve Maps into an ArcGIS SDE Geo Database for City of Tucson, Arizona Water Department
Clearwater, FL (December 06, 2004): Avineon, Inc. recently completed conversion of hard copy valve maps into an ArcGIS SDE Geodatabase, in a span of twenty-four months for the City of Tucson, Arizona Water Department.
This conversion was a major component of the enterprise Geographical Information System (GIS) implementation that will improve Tucson Water’s management of its largest asset – the water system infrastructure. Avineon converted all existing paper-based maps (referred to as valve maps) to digital format and created a seamless data set. The resulting GIS enables Tucson Water to better manage, plan, and model its water system and resources.
Avineon implemented very strict security measures to ensure that Tucson Water’s sensitive data was protected. In addition to Avineon’s standard security measures Tucson Water requested isolation of the project work area, a dedicated local area network for data capture, and project-specific confidentiality agreements for Avineon’s assigned staff.
"Avineon adhered to all contractual terms with regard to time, budget and conversion requirements. A key factor in the success of this project was the open and continuous communication between Tucson Water and Avineon staff" Said, Mr. Sandy Elder, Project Manager at City of Tucson, Arizona Water Department.
Tucson Water provides both potable and non-potable water utility services to approximately 670,000 people in Pima County, Arizona. The utility employs more than 575 staff members. The role of Tucson Water is to provide a safe, reliable, and sustainable water source to customers while managing groundwater use to meet demand in future years.
