Avineon awarded Phase III Contract of Small Business Innovation Research Program by Department of Defense
Alexandria, VA (June 20, 2003): Avineon, Inc., a leading information technology solutions provider, today announces that it has been awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program Phase III contract by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Naval Sea Systems Command. The largest of the Navy's five systems commands, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) engineers, builds and supports America's Fleet of ships and combat systems. Avineon will develop the Trouble Report Information Data Warehouse (TRIDW), a web-based database solution that will grant global users rapid access to combat systems data from disparate platforms.
The purpose of DoD's SBIR program is to harness the innovative talents of the nation's small technology companies for U.S. military and economic strength. This program funds early-stage R&D projects at small technology companies -- projects which serve a DoD need and have the potential for commercialization in private sector and/or military markets. Avineon's Phase III award follows the successful completion of the Phase I proof of concept and Phase II prototyping.
During Phase I, Avineon completed an analysis that demonstrated the validity of the TRIDW system and the database design. In accordance with the SBIR project guidelines, during the short Phase II Option period, Avineon transformed the prototypical system into a pre-production system.
During the Phase III contract, Avineon will develop and deliver the TRIDW, extending the system designed during Phase II to incorporate a periodical source data extraction over the Secret Internet Protocol Router Network, and a combination of one secured and one unsecured, web-based, data access capability complying with the National Security Agency requirements.
"Avineon will install the TRIDW system at the Government designated sites for classified and unclassified query processing and/or host the TRIDW system under the unclassified and/or classified environments and will ensure that the TRIDW system is operational at these Government-designated sites," said Mr. Karlu Rambhala, President and CEO of Avineon, as well as the principal investigator for the first two phases of this program. "Avineon appreciates the opportunity made possible by the SBIR program. The technology developed is broad in application and should find many uses in the government and private sectors.
