Avineon Completes Data Migration for Snohomish County Public Utility District No. 1
Clearwater, FL (August 4, 2003): Avineon, Inc., a leader in GIS data conversion, data migration, and data management services announced today that it has successfully completed data migration for Snohomish County Public Utility District No. 1 as part of an overall GIS Landbase Enhancement Project.
Snohomish County Public Utility District No. 1 (the District) is the second largest publicly owned utility in the Pacific Northwest and the twelfth largest in the nation in terms of customers served with a total number of customers above 275,000. The District's service area consists of approximately 2,200 square miles, including all of Snohomish County and Camano Island in Island County, Washington. The utility maintains over 5,000 miles of distribution line.
Avineon realigned the District's facility data from their existing cadastral landbase to a new landbase based upon current digital orthophotography. As a means to expedite the migration process and minimize the interruption in use of the District's facility data, Avineon utilized Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology, which was chosen as the best method to integrate Avineon's operators directly in the District's internal environment. Avineon's experienced operators utilized the District's GIS model functionality to adjust the location of all electrical features and conductors, determining their appropriate positions relative to the new landbase. Avineon's use of the District's GIS model functionality and Virtual Private Network technology minimized the schedule and technical risks.
"The use of VPN technology for this location realignment work allowed the District and Avineon team members to work together on our production GIS to ensure that the quality and delivery milestones were attained while at the same time keeping problems and costs minimized. Using VPN technology allowed the project to finish over three months ahead of schedule, even though we started over a month later than planned. This project has substantially increased the positional accuracy and functionality of the District's GIS data," said Tom Hendricks, the District's Project Manager.
